Sunhills
- who we are

Emerging from the depths of Salt Lake City the eclectic dream pop band, Sunhills is our FRESH ARTIST OF THE MONTH. Sunhills consists of 5 members. On vocals and rhythm guitar is Drew Nicholson, alongside him is Cameron Zitting on lead guitar, Leo Fernandez on bass guitar, Nicole Canaan on the synth, and finally Sam Olson on drums. Sunhills started back in 2018 as Drew’s solo project, running through musicians trying to find the right people to turn this into something even more special. Within the past two years, Sunhills has emerged into a full band project that is beyond ethereal. Within this project is the consistency of music that brings in so much intimacy through lyricism traced back to beautiful atmospheric soundscapes. This is Sunhills.

THE MUSIC - Live

Sunhills has really started to carve a name for themselves these past few years. Sharing a stage with so many talented artists such as Alice Phoebe Lou and The Backseat Lovers. In 2023 Sunhills opened the whole of Kilby Block Party 4. Their stage presence is something that provides such a personal experience to every soul in the crowd. The 5 piece shares such infectious energy that’s palpable. Their shows are always just as visually engaging as they are musically. From a small house show to Kilby Block Party 4 Sunhills makes every concert feel like an exclusive performance. From every “Drew speech” to every “Sam chant” there’s beautiful natural chemistry watching them perform live, that creates the best energy in the room. Sunhills leaves the crowd in awe at every show.

Sunhills has really dove into the subgenre of dream pop. Exploring new depths of textures. Instead of focusing on a specific sound necessarily,  they’ve taken a route of delving into emotion and visuals and how to show these stories musically. Alvvays and Snail Mail have a lot of depth to them as artists that have really inspired Sunhills and where they are taking their sound. Another big inspiration to them has been The Clark Planetarium and turning this idea into something more conceptualized. Something that particularly stands out in Sunhills’ music is how much vulnerability there is throughout all of the lyricism. Drew shares so many personal experiences that are heavy but these lyrics alongside the melodic mix of synth and reverb guitars wrap it all up into something so beautiful that has so much depth to it.
