Debut Delight: Exclusive Interview

Interview by Kiera Zoumadakis and Photos by Noelle Reynolds.

Previously Wilbere was Raining, Pouring. What urged you guys to create this new project? Were you after a new sound? Was this the development of the band itself changing from a solo project?

Yes! Wilbere is the start of a new project where we collaborate as a band rather than just my solo project. The sound we are working on is different from Raining, Pouring so we felt that a new start was needed. The name Wilbere also feels more in line with the feeling we are now creating.

What do you hope listeners will take away from this EP? Is there any particular messages or emotions you wanted to convey?

With this EP I don’t think there is a primary message we are trying to convey. Not sure if we fully achieved this, but I think a lot about early mornings and the feeling of waking up in the mountains after it rains. It would be cool if our music felt like that!

Davis Mcbride

What is next for the band after the release of this EP? Any upcoming projects or collaborations? Are there any plans for music videos or live performances to accompany the release of the EP?

Yes! Our first show following this release was on December 1st at Kilby Court supporting Hurtado. Our next show will be supporting The Johns at Kilby Court on January 11th. In the future, we’ll likely release some form of live video + possibly some music videos. We’ve also got lots more songs in the works that we are very excited to share!

How did you select the track list for Quiet Eyes? Were there any songs that didn’t make it onto the EP?

We selected the tracks for Quiet Eyes from a bigger pool of around ten songs we had been working on. Originally we intended to have five tracks but we ended up cutting two and adding Old Blood to round it out to four. We’ve since reworked the two songs we cut and there is a good chance they will surface sometime soon!

While creating this EP as a full band, what experiences do you believe grew the band as a whole during this process?

I think that seeing the progression of the songs from their beginnings to when they were recorded grew the band as a whole.

Max Moon

How long has this EP been in the makes? What was your timeline like with writing, recording, mixing, and mastering?

The songs were written between September of last year and June of this year with “Old Blood” being the oldest. We started recording at the end of July doing drums + bass with Cam Zitting at Archive Recordings. All the guitars + vocals were recorded in about two months and Ethan mixed the EP in about two weeks. Quicker process than we are generally used to but we were excited to get these songs out before the end of the year!!

What is your favorite song on the EP?

Parker Rappleye (guitar)- Unjust

Max Moon (drums) - Old Blood

Ethan Powell (bass) - Unjust

Davis Mcbride (vocals+guitar) - Thirty Pieces

Finally! It was a pleasure working with you guys. Is there anything else you guys would like to share with your listeners about your debut EP?

Yes! We’ve enjoyed working with you as well, thanks for taking the time!! I think we’d like everyone to know that if you try to record inside IKEA they will not stop you!
